There are all different kinds of geeky things that I do. I don’t fight it anymore, I just give in and embrace it! One of my biggest obsessions is probably watching anything and everything on the Discovery Channel and watching a documentary every night while falling asleep. Sometimes I watch the whole thing with great interest and sometimes I’m so tired that I can’t make it through before I drift off but the thing about bedtime every night is that I learn something.

I lean towards documentaries about ancient civilizations mainly because as someone intersted in Psychology, the drives and practices during ancient times really fascinate me. I also enjoy any deep sea, shipwreck sort of documentaries because I love seeing things uncovered that have been left untouched for many years.

My current favorite is called Burying King Tut. There are 2 links there for anyone interested in watching. It talks about why King Tut’s death must have been unexpected and perhaps suspicious because of the rush job or a burial which was extremely uncommon of royal mummifications and burials of that dynasty. As an added bonus, you get to see how a mummification is done!! Coolest thing ever!! Embeded for the lazies out there

I’ve been a big fan of J!nx for a long time and have bought t-shirts both for myself and as gifts. When checking out their blog … errr “glog” recently, I was really impressed and felt like I had to share this and hope that it helps them out even just a little. See this shirt? Pretty cool right? Well the really cool thing about it is that every penny that comes from the sale of this shirt goes right to the San Diego Boys & Girls Clubs which help over 13,000 children!

J!nx recently held 3 sessions with 14 kids to come up with a really snazzy shirt design to help fund all the fun and beneficial activities and support that these kids really need and this is the design. Well done to both J!nx and the kids and I hope that more people can be inspired to find creative and thoughtful ways to give what they can, be it money or time, to help those who need it.

Please click the image to read the full article, I promise it’s worth it!

Everyone knows what it’s like to be part of a small fundraiser right? Remember when you were a kid and you had to sell cookies for brownies, or chocolate bars. I remember bottle drives and raffles for my softball team and bingo games for the church youth group. Now these things are on a very small scale but for some small charities, they have the same goal of raising money and not much more starting funds than my softball team had.

Since small charities often don’t have alot of money to start up their fundraisers with, they need to think of something that will take what they do have and make it go a long way. They often don’t have the means to buy permits for large events or to pay for products to sell. Bingo has often been a way for the smaller charities to get the results their looking for and giving the community an easy way to support them. Bingo for charity doesn’t have to mean the paper and dabber kind. Online bingo was another popular way for small charities to get their fundraising efforts out there without having to foot a massive bill that would eat into the funds raised. Unfortunately there was recently a law passed banning this form of fundraising and it’s really having a detrimental effect on those small charities that don’t have alot of captial to start with. This is a bad thing for them and the causes that they’re trying to make money for

I have never really discussed the business side of blogging to much degree and last night, a conversation with friends sparked my interest. We were talking about the costs of running a fundraiser or function … or even just a business in general. What are your major expenses going to be?

We all agreed the advertising is a biggie. Be it web advertising, radio, newspaper and print such as fliers, business cards, etc. This morning I came across this for postcard printing. This company called PsPrint does all kinds of things like business cards, postcards, stickers, etc. I’d be willing to bet that alot of small businesses starting out completely rely on their own home printer to do some of the preliminary work but I think that it would be much more professional and beneficial in the long run to have your printing done for you.

Print shops are fine but they’re a bit expensive for those just starting out so an online printing service is definately the way to go for someone who wants to get things started, look professional, and not break the bank getting there. If you’re looking for a good one, check out the link above and hopefully it’ll be of some help to you!

I’ve been counting down the days so as you might imagine, I was just a little bit excited for this release!

And I was SOOOO not disappointed! In a word, I LOVE it!! I was already a fan of the music so maybe that’s the kicker. It’s fun to be playing lead guitar and know all the words to so you really feel like you’re rocking out. There’s a good amount of difficulty so it’s not just a cake walk which is something that’s important to me. Easy mode provides a good starting point for kids and new or casual gamers, where as hard is a friggin challenge for those who feel they can master it!

My favorite thing about this game is that the 2 remaining Beatles were a part of it’s development. By doing well in the game, you unlock special bits and pieces from the Beatles themselves. Seeing pictures, videos and more of them goofing off and being normal, fun, English boys is very endearing and entertaining. I’m not sure what you’re waiting for but I’d really recommend buying the game if you’re a Beatles fan or a gamer in general.

Now that’s the PS3 version. Here are links for the Xbox360
and Wii as well. There are a few package deals out for people without Rockband already so if you’re one of them have a look! And just a reminder, you don’t actually need all of the instruments to play! L33tz0r and I currently have 2 guitars (that we had from Guitar Hero which are compatible) and 2 microphones (from SingStar). Eventually we’ll purchase the drums but for now we’re happy with this. So don’t think you can’t play if you don’t have the whole thing!

Thanks to the mysterious rise in temperature and good weather in Eastern Canada, L33tzor and I have managed a few good days with sand and sun! The city that we live in was Canada’s first incorporated city and was a very successful and busy port back in the day. While it has changed very much since then, you can still see some remnants of it’s glory days.

While walking along certain beaches in the area, you can see a graveyard as such of old piers and the like. I love the contrast of nature and industry and think that it paints an interesting picture. I took a few photos on my Blackberry for you all to see.

Alas, it has taken me enough time but I think I’ve come up with something I’m happy with!! I was intrigued by this project for a while now and was very happy when asked to participate so I wanted to some up with something good!

All contributors should link to the starting post before the contribution (http://buel.kissthis.net/?p=121), this will make it easy for those wanting to read the story to find the beginning.

No one person owns the story, it is a cumulative effort and therefore belongs to the contributors as a whole.

You can introduce or kill off any character you wish to providing the it doesn’t detract from the overall storyline – hopefully we’ll not end up with 400 named characters (hehe)

There is no limit to how much or how little you write, just that you write something

You may nominate only one person to contribute the next content, if that person doesn’t wish to be a part of this or does not write the next part within a week, then you should nominate someone else.

The genre is not set in stone, whatever your taste is in books – let it influence the story.

Here is my addition to the story …

“Don’t move.”

Her voice was like velvet and breath warm in his ear.

What goes through ones head at a time such as this is often recounted should one survive to tell the tale. All Jeb could think about was why he was sent here. This assignment was one with few details and fewer survivors. It seemed to him that all of the less than stellar guys were given this exact assignment, from which they never returned. He had felt slightly miffed when it was handed to him and even more miffed now that he was faced with a bit of a problem.

Without taking a breath, he began to raise his arm slowly, fingers still wrapped around the Browning.

“Silly man”, she hissed in his ear grabbing his hand and trying to remove the gun from his grip. Unwilling to let go and unable to see through the thick, black curtain of darkness surrounding them, he flung his body around and pulled the trigger. The shot flashed from the end of the barrel and struck a boarded window, pouring moonlight through a small splintered hole.

“You’re better than the others”, she giggled from behind him.

He turned quickly to face her and for a split second caught a glimpse before she disappeared back into the pitch black. A mass of crimson curls flared out wildly around her pale, ashen skin. Her lips were curled into a snearing grin. And her eyes. Her eyes were bright blood red and gleaming with amusement.

And there you have it!! Now here’s the part I’ve been having the most trouble with … finding someone to nominate! So what I will do now is search through my Twitter friends and find a suitable candidate who would be willing to keep the ball rolling. Should you be reading this and feel compelled to continue the story, leave me a comment and away you go!! I shall update and let you know the next contributor as soon as I find them!

Seriously, sometimes I really wonder about people. Let’s say I know this family. For the purpose of this post, let’s say this family is related to my family. (No, it’s not my immediate family just so you know.)

So they’ve always had some problems. They’ve always been on welfare (social assistance for the non-Canadians) because of laziness first, and extreme illness mostly. That’s not even my issue. Social assistance is there to help those who need it, and hell, they need help. I won’t even comment on what the welfare cheque is used to buy. None of my business, but infuriating none the less.

Anyway, oldest child has problems. And not like dumped by the boyfriend problems, like mental issues which require medications. Still, no problem for me. I’m just finishing my Psychology degree. I understand that mental illness is not the fault of the individual and that it can be regulated so that the person functions wonderfully within society. So oldest child gets pregnant. Being a frequent flyer with Social Services her entire life, they’re not overly excited for her … and neither am I but who am I to judge. Mistakes do happen. It’s no secret this baby will be taken away. She can’t even take care of herself. Baby comes, is beautiful and her mother (who is riddled with cancer by the way) loves her as soon as she lays eyes on her. Probably not the best move, her mother adopts the baby almost 2 years later. Oldest child probably saw the little one less than a handfull of times. Fine, some people just aren’t naturally maternal.

Few months after adoption goes through, oldest child has some news … she’s pregnant … again. Ok, seriously? Are you kidding? Did you learn nothing? There are people in this world who would kill to have children, who would be amazing parents, and SHE gets herself impregnated once again? Her mother says she cannot take another baby, at her age and in her state of illness she just can’t handle it. Baby hasn’t arrived yet, but will be taken away as soon as he or she enters the world. Far better for the baby I believe. It’s not their fault and they deserve a wonderful and loving life.

Newest news from this family, youngest child has a surprise … guess who’s pregnant?? SERIOUSLY??? You have to be joking. She’s 16. She just watched her sister make this error in judgement … TWICE!! Birth control is wonderful! It can be found for FREE!! FREEEEEEE!!! Not many things are free today, but you can get free birth control!!! I’ve been with L33tz0r for over 3 years now. We live together. We sleep in the same bed *gasp*. (Never said I was without sin!) But somehow, through the miracles of modern science along with common sense, I have managed to keep myself pregnancy free. Even if I were to find myself with child, I’m 24 years old, have a university degree and a job. Sure, not my ideal situation, but it would not end my world.

Why is it so difficult for so many young girls? Mistakes happen. We live and we learn. Sometimes these things happen to SMART girls. Girls who come from GOOD families and backgrounds. And then there are the ones like this family who infuriate me beyond belief.

Thanks for listening interwebs If I have caused offence to any, please accept my apologies and feel free to voice your own opinion. Perhaps I am missing something important.

Rant off.
