Since LittleBigPlanet is finally being released tomorrow, I felt compelled to write about where I stand on the issue of it being held back.

I’d like to start out by saying that I have very little problem with any race or religion in particular. I actually enjoy learning about other religions and cultures if people would like to share them with me. Also, this is my opinion. You may not share the same opinion as I do, and that’s cool!! Differences are what makes the world a diverse and interesting place.

Anyway, my problem lies with the state of our world today. Everything today has to be so politically correct! No matter what you say, someone is going to be offended. Mind you, I (as a Catholic) don’t mind at all if you draw a funny picture of Jesus, or put Christian music in a game. Hey, at least people are still finding him important enough to talk about!!

Living in England has jaded me alot. And I mean ALOT!! Not so much down south where I am now, but definately Manchester. It is evident there that there is a problem. No more giant Santa on City Hall. It’s “Happy Holidays” now, not “Happy Christmas”. I don’t mean to be rude, but England is a predominantly “Christian” country … is it not? I certainly wouldn’t go to a Muslim country and parade around with a cross and tell the inhabitants that their practices offended me!! I should feel lucky to be there!!

I feel a rant coming on so I’ll curb it before it starts, but I’d just like you to think. Would this have happened 5 years ago? Sure, the Pope complains about lots of things on television and in games … but has anything ever been stopped by him? While we should respect the religious beliefs of others, it’s also important to remember the right to freedom of expression. Maybe a Muslim country doesn’t have to release LBP if they don’t like it … but what about here?

I don’t believe that putting that music in the game was an intention of the developpers. I was fortunate enough to have played the beta of LittleBigPlanet … and to be completely honest with you, I didn’t even notice what type of music was playing at all. I certainly didn’t think that it was music from any particular genre or religion!!

Your thoughts?
