It’s finally here and of course L33tz0r and I had to get our hands on it. We bought Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning on Friday and have been playing it even since. Not all is roses, however.

While L33tz0r is completely taken by the game, I am not. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great. Looks pretty, some new ideas, good PvP stuff … but for some reason it just don’t compare for me to you know what. The graphics in WAR are more realistic and adult compared to WoW … but that’s one of the things that I don’t like. I love the cartoon type graphics of WoW because it goes along with the fantasy aspect of the game. The character creation didn’t thrill be but is ok. Although I really don’t care to give my characters scars. And I hate to be picky, but the hair in WAR looks like crap! Haha!! Only I would be bothered by something like that!

While it may not seem like it, there are some things that I do actually like about the game. The public quests that you can just join in on when you’re in the area are really cool and fun! That is something I’ve never seen before and I really like it! And although I haven’t played very far into the game yet (my highest character is level 5), I like the RvR presence in almost every area. In WoW, it wasn’t really until Outlands that there were areas that you could go and capture where as in WAR it starts early. There’s also the added Renoun which I like the idea of but haven’t really explored yet.

I like the UI (which is customizable) because it looks good and functions well. I like having all of your menu, inventory, and character type things up at the top, completely separate from your skills which are down at the bottom. Your XP bar is also at the top.

One more thing I’m not overly fond of are the professions. I find the interface for those confusing and I just plain don’t understand what I need to do for some of them.

Regardless of these things, I am willing to give this game a try. I can’t say at this point whether or not it will replace WoW for me or not but I will give it a chance to prove itself and show me what it’s got. Hopefully in the coming weeks, people will get accustomed to it and it will become a more social game like WoW but I wasn’t expecting that right away since people are just coming to grips with the gameplay. I’ll keep you posted on how I’m doing with it!!

What are your thoughts on WAR? How does it compare to WoW for you?
